Decorative Entryways

During this time of year, your entryway becomes one of the most utilized spaces in your home. From welcoming friends and family into your home to turning into a catch-all for your visitors coats, bags, and shoes, your entryway should be one of the warmest, most welcoming space in your home. Ensure that’s true with these simple tips and tricks.

Use garland to dress up staircases, mirrors, and picture frames. Garland isn’t just for your mantle anymore. It can be used to dress up photos or art that you already have hanging in your entryway, instantly adding a sense of festivity to the space. You can use real garland made of fresh evergreens that will fill your entryway with the scent of the season or find faux evergreens at your local craft store that you can use for years to come.

Add elements that are beautiful, but functional. Your entryway is the space your guests first step foot into your home, muddy, snowy boots and all. Invest in a durable carpet runner for your hallway to help eliminate the amount of debris tracked throughout your home. If you entryway allows, set up a decorative cubby unit to house everyone’s shoes while they’re in your home. Stylistically, the carpet runner will naturally draw your guests into the home, bringing the eye from the front door into the next space in your house.

Feature a show-stopper. Every room in your home deserves a focal point, and your entryway is no different. Gallery walls work best in these small but mighty spaces, so get creative! Whether you have a ton of family photos, mirrors, and wall art you can transform into a gallery wall, a decorative grandfather clock, or a piece of art that you’ve invested in, your entryway is the perfect place to feature these types of decorative elements.

Hang mirrors to brighten your entryway. If you have a small entryway, you can make it appear larger by installing a mirror. This is easy to achieve, particularly if your front door features a window. Aim to hang your mirror in a place that will catch the natural light that pours in from other areas in your home. This is a quick fix to brighten darker hallways and a simple way to make the space feel warmer and brighter. To achieve the feeling that the entryway is larger than it appears, use a mirror proportional to the area – too big or too small can work against opening the space.
