Some Counter Intelligence in the Kitchen!

Today Kitchens have become grand places, the hub of the home, often an integral part of the family room, where, as well as food preparation all kinds of other family activities happen.  Maybe you’re looking to redo the whole thing, or just looking to spruce it up with a new updated look.   The part that creates the biggest visual effect is the countertop.  A typical kitchen has about 60 square feet of countertop and it is the one area that catches your eye, the moment you enter the room.

A new countertop with an under-mounted sink, “refreshed” cabinets, a new tile backsplash and some LED under wall-cabinet lighting can make a very affordable improvement to your kitchen. For most people a kitchen renovation is usually a one-time event and it is extremely important to ensure that all the right choices are made. Over the last few years we have worked with literally hundreds of clients to help them achieve  their dream kitchen.

Countertops today come in a variety of styles and formats.  Of course the traditional laminate top in some new modern patterns is always available, but the trend is towards natural products like granite and stone. Colors and patterns can vary from the subdued to wildly flamboyant and everywhere in between. Quartz has an advantage over granite in that it is naturally stain resistant, although with good care both can last a lifetime. The manufactured acrylic tops are now more popular for bathrooms, however in the last few months we have installed kitchen tops utilizing all three products.  Coupled with a complimenting tile backsplash any one of the surfaces can have a huge visual impact in your kitchen.

Customers are not limited to just one choice any more.  Hot right now is to take different products and mix and match them, using the benefits of each individual surface for that particular application.  A good example would be the sage green furniture-style island with a 2” thick genuine hard rock maple butcher block surface we just installed in a traditional cherry kitchen.
